Animal Peace Project SORA
, based in Fukushima and Tokyo, had been rescuing dogs and cats in the no-go zone around the TEPCO (The Tokyo Electric Power Company)  nuclear power plant in Fukushima, until the last moment before the area was banned to enter.  They are a small group but saved many lives.  Currently they have over 70 companion animals with them.  They will continue to save amd look after affected animals in the disaster-struck areas

Please take a moment to watch this video. dThis is one of the stories about a rescue from the 20km-zone SORA has helped.  It shows how important it is for both evacuees and companion animals to be together.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Du0b0TY2Jqk&feature=youtu.be

This is about a dog named Cook - whom SORA had been taking care of.  On March 12th, Mr. & Mrs. Tochimoto had to evacuate from home in Namie-machi in the now no-go zone in Fukushima.  They thought they would be able to come back immediately so left Cook home - but that was not the case.  They could never go back.  The couple had been devastated and had felt regret that they left their beloved dog behind.

However, 50 days later, on April 29th, the couple who were temporarily staying at their relative's home, received a thrilling news that Cook was alive and rescued.  Mr. and Mrs. Tochimoto were reunited with their loved dog who was so excited to see them.  But the story didn't yet end with the happy moment.

Because of the temporary living situation with the relatives, Mr. & Mrs. Tochimoto had to hold on to take Cook with them.  Then only 4 days later, Cook started getting sick and weakened. d
He must have felt that he was left behind again.  That shows how hard it was for Cook to have been left alone. dThe couple negotiated their relatives and finally they could bring the loved family dog back to live together.

Now Cook is recovered and doing great.  Also, the reunion to be together with Cook has uplifted Mr. & Mrs. Tochimoto to much happier everyday life - regardless of what they have gone through.

This was broadcasted on May 9th on a show "Asa Zubatt" on TBS TV.
